Meet our new WILPF Australia President – Yvonne Orley
My Name is (Aunty) Yvonne Orley), I came to WILPF through a lifelong commitment to health, community development, social justice and creating the conditions in which people and communities can flourish. As a Kamilaroi woman and Elder, I value relationships, deep listening, reciprocity, respect and our responsibility to future generations.
My professional life has spanned nursing, public health, government, disability services, community development and advocacy. These experiences have shaped my belief that peace is much more than the absence of war. It is built through belonging, safety, equality, opportunity, healthy communities and respect for people and our environment.
As President, I hope to strengthen WILPF Australia’s role as a connector – building relationships across generations, communities and organisations and creating a national peace ecosystem. For me, peacebuilding begins with relationships and with creating the conditions in which everyone can flourish.
